Group Connections
Group Connections are designed to offer opportunities for parents/caregivers and children to come together to participate in a variety of hands-on learning activities. In addition, parents are given the opportunity to connect with other families. But most of all, we want you to have fun with your child.
Group Connections events are organized with community partners and designed towards parent-child interaction so parents can learn by observing their own child and other children. The events are typically held in a large space with smaller stations for children to participate in a theme-based activity. Parent educators or community partners leading the event may distribute handouts related to the topic. The majority of the event will be spent in hands-on learning activities with your child. Please check the PAT Family Calendar for our upcoming group connections.
Infant Massage
Infant massage provides the groundwork for a lifetime of nurturing touch.
Nurturing touch between a parent/caregiver and infant enriches physiological, social-emotional, and mind/body/spirit connections for the infant being massaged, as well as for the caregiver. Infant massages facilitate infant-parent interaction, attachment and parents' ability to read their babies' cues.
Massaging your baby is done with your heart; not just your hands. Your gentle touch during a massage, and at other times, communicates an undeniable message of love to your baby. Your baby needs your loving touch to grow emotionally and physically strong. Massage helps your baby to relax. Many parents happily report their babies sleep better, have an easier time with feeding, and experience fewer stomach upsets after a massage.
The SJSD Parents As Teachers program offers Infant Massage class once a month. Check with your Parent Educator, our Facebook page, or the PAT calendar for dates and times.
Infant Massage classes are free of charge. Bring a blanket for baby to lay on and a natural oil for the massage. (Oils should be food quality oil and unscented. Some suggestions are: olive, canola, safflower, grapeseed, or sunflower. Unscented lotions can be used as well. Test the oil on baby's elbow and watch for any allergic reactions prior to using the oil for massage.)
See flyer under the community calendar for dates.

Children will have an opportunity to play in a safe space with their caregiver and other young children. Caregivers can connect with other adults. Families are not required to be enrolled in PAT to attend playgroup.
We have a variety of spaces and activities available at playgroup. Kids can play with blocks, vehicles, baby dolls, and musical instruments. There are areas for dress-up, reading, and art. There is also a gated space specifically designed with infants in mind.
We also offer opportunities for gross motor play in the gymnasium and on the outdoor playground.
